Monster Fingers Part 2

October 28, 2009

Thinking of making these this year, since most of my treats are more savory than sweet…  It’s kind of a new version of monster fingers: pretzel rods, dipped in chocolate with an almond for a fingernail; it sounds easy enough.  I’m also digging the way they are displaying the pretzels with the shirt cuff.   […]

Garish Garnish

October 12, 2009

I know, I need to stop on the punny post titles, but it’s harder than you think.  I made these olive, caper, and rosemary spiders (from an old Good Housekeeping magazine) a couple of years ago and placed them around the meat head.  I’m thinking that they look more like roaches, which is scarier anyway.

Monster Fingers

September 20, 2009

I plan on making Monster Finger cookies, which are really super easy shortbread with almonds for fingernails.  I could even make them with green food coloring for even scarier results.

Witches Brew

September 20, 2009

I always make a Witches Brew (but it’s usually just green Margaritas) in a cauldron with a frozen ice hand.  Just fill a rubber glove with ice and freeze it for a few days.  I think you are supposed to run hot water over the ice before peeling away the glove, but I often get […]

Chilling Chips

September 20, 2009

I’ve had good luck with scary-shaped tortilla and pita chips.  Just use cookie-cutters to cut the tortilla/pita, and then bake them in the oven.  Lately I’ve been buying already-made-but-still-raw tortillas in the grocery, so I may use them instead.  Then I’ll either fry or bake the shapes I cut.  Either way, serve them with guacamole […]

Mummy Dogs

September 20, 2009

A big favorite Halloween treat are Mummy Dogs, and I made them last year with some modifications to this recipe.  I used the mini breakfast sausages (regular and jalapeño work really well) as the dogs.  I cut up refrigerated crescent roll dough into strips and wrapped the mummies.  I slashed the mouths and added poppy […]

Brains with Worms and Booze!

September 16, 2009

I’m a big fan of the Jello-shot brain mold…you know, complete with gummy worms.  I’ve been known to eat the whole thing myself, although I usually don’t remember what happens after that…  Anyway, my recipe is easy: combine 2 boxes of instant Jello (I like green, but whatever), and basically just submit 1/2 of the […]

Edible Bones

September 16, 2009

These meringue bones look awesome: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/sweet-bones?lnc=ef2e802fb632c110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&rsc=cookie+of+the+day_recipe_b I’ve never made meringue before, and it all looks a bit complicated, but the product is pretty great.

Marshmallow Skulls!

September 15, 2009

These are hilarious, spooky, and easier than anything I’ve ever seen on Martha before: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/marshmallow-skulls Just cut a slit for the mouth and add sprinkles!  Love it!

Sesame Seed Cheeseballs

October 27, 2008

This cheeseball is a party pleaser.  The orange inside contrasts nicely with the sesame seed outside…very Halloweeny. It’s made from cheddar, and you could even cheat and make it from that those fancy processed cheeses in the little tubs (to the right) rolled in sesame seeds–it looks spooky and tastes great.  Check out the pictureon the […]
